Organic Modelling - T-Rex

When introduced to organic model in maya, the task was to model a T-Rex from a reference image. This was my outcome of the model phase after the model was subdivided once.
This is the UV sheet after I've cut and edges and lay out each limb and piece of the T-Rex ready for the texture to be made on the UV snapshot.
The UV mapping of an organic model wasn't too difficult and I finished it quickly, its all about making sure the model itself is correct and that the edge loops are all uniform. This makes it quick to find and cut the right edges.

Game Project - Placeholder Models

This is an assortment of the place-holder and low poly models I made when creating the prototype scripting in Unity. These were for when I wanted to test a script and to show of the Alpha of the the gameplay.

Game Project - Turret

This first turret is not made by me, but I did UV-unwrap and texture it using a wood, metal and gold texture.

This second turret was made by me, this was one of the design we considered, but never used in the end, it was to be a slower firing, auto-cannon of sorts with gears that would spin in the rear.

Life Drawing - Best Of

3D Modelling Task - Finn

The final modeling project of the term was to create this character, Finn, from the two reference images provided. Then to UV-unwrap it and give it a texture.
I started with the head of the character, this was probably the most difficult areas of the model, so I got it done first. It came out rather well and is fairly recognisable. The edge loops are fairly uniform too.
Here is where I extruded the legs from, you can see where the pelvis ends and the legs start.
This is the final model, I think it turned out well, with the excepting of the feet, they appear slightly stretched and there aren't many surfaces on them.
This is the character all unwrapped. By using the cut UV-edge tool I skinned the character and lay out the UV shells ready for texturing.

Anthropomorphic Frog - Frog Cops

This week was about anthropomorphic creatures and the task of the week was to design an anthropomorphic frog.
These are my initial ideas for my frog creation. After looking at a few images I thought frogs fit the role of a stereotypical American cop quite well. I drew a few archetypes based on different frog species and created some neater ones with uniforms and props on.
This is the refined sketch with block colours added, I picked two different species to fit the stereotype. Having two characters allowed me to have a more varied colour pallette too, having a darker and lighter frog.
This is the final pair. Using sections of the images from above, I created the texture of the frog's skin, for the tone and shading I created a fixed shadow, and underneath made a softer shadowing by blending the colours, this makes the characters appear more rounded rather that geometric or flat.
I think it came out really well, but I would have liked to spend more time on it so to clean up edges and define the shadow even more so.

Steampunk Design

Steampunk was this week subject matter and I instantly though of old Victorian diving suits, these suits were crazy and looked utterly bizarre, and that's what gave them character, often appearing creepy and mysterious.
I liked the idea that in an alternate world, these diving suit were used as some sort of armour, they were very thick iron suits, and could deflect anything thrown at them because of this. I created a sort of steam-powered giant in diving suit armour.
To give a sense of scale I added a mall figure being clutched by the giant. As for colour I chose brass and rusted colours to give it a look of wear and tear.
